Mudroom shelves

My brother-in -law Larry custom built shelves in each end of my new mudroom. They turned out just perfect! A place for everything--now if we can just get into the habit of putting everything in its place!

Isaac's Birthday Purchase

Since the boys have a shortage of Legos (NOT!), Isaac decided he needed to use his birthday money to purchase this incredible power miners set. For the record, I cleaned the living room while the boys tackled this one alone. Looks pretty complicated, but they did it! Isaac asked that I title this "how to torture a rock monster."

To infinity...and beyond!

Hopefully he can man a spaceship better than he skates!

The Birthday Party!

We celebrated Isaac's birthday with the cousins at a nearby park/skate park. Isaac requested an "I Spy" cake this year, which we turned into a game. In the frosting were hidden various items which each guest had to find--things like: a yellow button, a Lego wheel, a blue jelly bean, a pink shoelace, a black Lego brick, a Mars Mission alien, or a piece of carrot. Can you spot them?

In honor of Isaac...

Happy Birthday to Isaac!

What a precious son I've been blessed with! I remember hearing the doctor say "It's a boy!" And feeling so grateful that Ian would have a little brother. And he is so appropriately named--he sure keeps us laughing! He is the king of funny faces and all things speedy! He has become quite the baseball player. He is playing coach pitch this year and today was their first chance at batting practice. He hit all three pitches the coach threw at him! Isaac is technically in first grade, but does some second grade work along with Ian. He is a great reader and loves art. He is also still the one who loves to snuggle up in my lap for some "huggles." I am blessed! I love you so much, my "sweetness wrapped in baby skin!" Not so much of a baby anymore...

Inaugural bike ride of 2010

We dusted off the winter's dust and pulled out our bikes today! Such beautiful spring weather we're having. It always feels good to breathe the fresh air and work these muscles God gave us. The trees are blooming and the skies are blue. Perfect! I'm glad we live so close to this great bike path. Makes riding with kids much less stressfull!

Cutest TJ ever!

Here is Isaac as Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd president. He has discovered that he has a lot in common with Jefferson, such as the fact that they were both born in Virginia in April. They both share a love for hiking in the woods, reading, and collecting things.

Land Ho!

Ian and Isaac are busy working on presentations for their History Alive program on Saturday. Ian has chosen to appear as Christopher Columbus. We're learning a lot of interesting facts about him--including that he was taken back to Spain as a prisoner at one point for his mistreatment of the Indians. He went to his grave believing he had simply found a west-ward passage to the Indies. In reality, he found a whole new world!

This was his "smile" for the camera. I think his face is so frozen that this is the best he can do!

Betcha didn't know there was a zipline at Grammy's!

Ian has spent the afternoon dreaming up this lego zipline. Looks like fun! Can I try?!?

Random thoughts and recommendations

Product recommendations:
1. Butter Pecan cake mix (by Betty Crocker)
2. Butter cream icing, for #1
3. Caramel Bugles. The perfect sweet and salty combination. Enough said.

Sometimes Isaac is too smart for MY own good. Tonight I let the boys fill up little bags of Jelly Belly's at the store. When we got home, I of course planned to sequester them up nice and high where it would take parental permission to obtain. Isaac, foreseeing this tragedy, cleverly removed some of the jelly beans from his bag, put them in a ziploc bag, and hid them in a lower cupboard. He wisely left some in the bag so I wouldn't notice his bag missing. Unfortunately for him, I found them in the cake pans while baking #1.

Maybe I should hide the cake from myself!

Bunk Buddies

When we moved to Ohio, the boys' bunk beds moved to Aunt Susan's to help house all the boys when they spend the night there. Today Ian and Isaac got their long promised replacements! They're sure to have sweet dreams under their new down comforters--on clearance for $15 at Target!!! Now let's see if Isaac will actually be able to fall asleep without his brother snuggled next to him. They had a twin over full before and usually slept together on the bottom...

Out with the old...

The mudroom turned out so nicely, I thought I'd sweep the bathroom.

Just kidding!

Thought the boys better start the new year with a little less hair!

Too much Sake!

They're running around the house with spatulas and knives. So far I've lost one egg. That's what I get for literally just turning my back for a moment!

My "quiet place"

This quilt was made for me by a friend in Greenville and is signed on the back by all of my precious Calvary Chapel of Greenville "family". It's a precious reminder of their love and prayers for us. Deborah simply asked me what colors I had in my bedroom and somehow the fabrics she chose match my tones of my bedding perfectly! What a treasure!
